Last Night's Pictures

Now is our KHers' turn to put up our pictures.

We performed at Chong Pang CC last night. It marked the end of June series of performance.

(Shanice is still very sleepy though she went home earlier than us last night. )(LOL)

The lighting was much better than the one at West Coast.

Fairy Hare descended from the "Moon" after serving a 10-day sentence for falling in love with a mortal. 10 days in Heaven is equivalent to 10 years on Earth. She has been demoted as a human being.



Moon Fairy, Chang e, reunites the couple with her magical powers.

(Hmmm...YA needs to doll up more to look like a fairy.)



They met after a decade...Hmmm, I understand why Fairy Hare doesn't grow old but Doc Karen looks as young as ten years ago.

(K, you wanna put on a cute moustache? Hehe)

My Favourite Show - 三鳳求凰

三鳳求凰 is always my favourite show.
This particular scene is always messy during rehearsals...

I don't remember a single rehearsal that was acceptable enough and always let us worry and hoping that it won't be messy during the actual performance.

This zither is really too short and it is quite difficult to handle...

I think I look odd with the zither...is the carrying of the zither that make me look funny...I must go and find out how a zither should be played and carried if I have an opportunity to perform this show.

I prefer the old one...It has already been thrown away...so sad.

Anyway, must appreciate ZL's masterpiece because he really is good at making such props.

I think I am now very fat...(LOL)

Some negative comments that I have received informally.

Topic - Xiangju Troupe's Performance


- The scripts too old, too traditional, no break through, not refreshing enough and no new input in the performance.

- Not able to adapt and receive new ideas, not open enough and unable to attract more audience.

- Not interesting enough, performance not up to standard, tunes not nice and catchy and pitch too high.

- Always that few shows, music and actors don't co-ordinate, weak orchestra, performance style just not his/her cup of tea - too traditional??.

- actors not pretty enough...(Hahahahahahaha)

So what do you think?

My own thoughts;

In a troupe, there are pros and cons.

I agree that the troupe's scripts are old and some are more than decades old. We don't have a pool of talented writers to write for new scripts. The direction that the troupe is heading is definitely traditional xiangju opera and I don't think the management will open up to experimental opera to attract younger audience.

At this moment of time, I don't think so. The troupe has been in this 才子佳人theme for so long. The mindset is vastly different and perhaps not quite possible for bold changes.

Sadly, the market for Xiangju Opera isn't as large as Taiwan and China. There are so many lacking factors namely funds, talent, music etc. Due to these factors, the progress is slow though the troupe exists more than 2 decades.

Audience....Hmm... the troupe has her audience. I agree that most of them are not young. May I write in this way... Ironically, we have younger actors in the troupe than audience...(LOL)

Performance style - Personally I think the songs (most of them) are nice, it is just that we don't sing well enough. The songs may not be as catchy as Gezaixi tunes which I agree. However how well do we sing if we were given Gezaixi tunes? Do you think we will do better with the Gezaixi tunes?

I know some audience ever commented that if we were to sing gezaixi tunes, we surely spice up our performance. To certain extent, there is a possiblity.

Again, the same question, how well can we sing? How well can we coordinate with the musicians?

Here, we don't know.

In regards to actors not pretty enough.. I think it is rather personal... How do you define "pretty"?

Your "pretty" may be someone " not pretty enough".

The troupe isn't running a beauty contest. It is only an amatuer troupe. As long as any Tom, Dick or Harry wishes to join, we welcome with open arms.

It is not easy to come across a troupe blessed with Brainy Beauties with Talents. (LOL)

I know there are such troupes... but not certainly in our area.

In conclusion, the management is the key to what direction the troupe is heading.

At present, I am not concerned... I just want to be happy as I am and do what I like.

It is always a more joyful experience being an audience than an actress, don't you agree? (LOL)

I AM Happier This Way

My performance is this Sunday.

It is one of my most fearful and dreadful roles - Princess Dowry...(LOL)

Reasons as follow;

- There are some changes in the actions and movements and I am totally not sure of them. I was busy and did not have the time to learn the new movements. (So it is my fault because Troupe's number 1 motto is "MUST HAVE TIME")


- Frankly speaking, I am scared of the role... Maybe you can say that I am conscious of the role. I look so gigantic and awful when I am dressed up as a dan... Distasteful isn't it?


- Beside technical aspects, I am quite tied up physically and emotionally... I am now back to work and each time I finish a day of work, I am so drained out...especially now is the H1N1 period, there are so many things to follow up.
In addition, I have some other worries and concerns to attend to... In a way, I am really not "INTO" KH matters now... My concentration and commitment level is really very low.

One interesting thing that I found out, allow me to sidetrack a bit.

I remember that the word "当家" isn't a word in the troupe's vocab list. However it was USED TO be discouraged.

There was once someone who approached the troupe for a performance and she wanted the TOPs in that performance. She was told that there wasn't such a thing as TOPS and everyone in the troupe was considered as equals...

Now... the word "当家" is used and emphasised... (LOL)

I used to aspire to be a TOP... (Hahahahahahaha)

It does not matter now, in fact, it is only just a word without significance...

To me, this word is only used on people who really deserve it.

LPY is a deserving TOP in her troupe. This is definitely for sure, confirmed and certified!!! I really admire her performance. If you really do come across her show, please go and watch and you will know why.

As for me, I don't even qualify for a committed member in my troupe. ;P

I am happier this way. (^_^)

Messy Pictures

The pictures are in an awful mess。 ML doesn't know how to download the pictures from her new camera.

When I looked at her picture folder, I got to search for the pictures and it's like seeking a needle in a haystack.

Frankly speaking, I am PISSED...

So when SOMEONE chased her, she chased after me!!!

Must teach ML how to download the pictures and when I complained and nagged, I got the reply as..."Sorry, I really don't know where did those pictures go to..."



I know I am narcissistic BUT I have to put up my picture to cheer myself up! (LOL)
